Turn your laptop PC into a powerful street navigator with the GPS 18 — a GPS sensor bundled with nRoute and City Navigator v8 software that automatically guides you with turn-by-turn directions and voice prompts to get you safely to your destination.

Similar to Garmin's MapSource software, nRoute features an easy-to-use interface, making it intuitive to operate so you can focus on driving. It offers auto-routing and voice-prompting capabilities to virtually any address.

The GPS 18 package also includes City Navigator North America map data with detailed maps of the United States and select cities in Canada. This data is fully unlocked, and map detail includes highways, interstates, business and residential roads, with turn restrictions, speed categories, and other navigation features. It also features more than five million points of interest including restaurants, lodging, attractions, shopping, emergency services, post offices, and more.

The GPS 18 includes a 12 parallel channel, WAAS-enabled sensor, available with either a PC or a USB connection. The receiver includes an integrated magnetic base and is less than three inches in diameter.

The unit works well, and installed without any problems. The software that comes with it is fairly basic, however I added some Fugawi software which really enhanced the experience. I would recommend this product to anyone that has a laptop and needs GPS

We are thrilled with the GPS. We need to get a connection to the cigarette lighter because the power goes down and then we can't use it. We are looking forward to adding that. It wasn't explained that we needed that, so that is the only complaint we have. We now have to try to find it on the internet, or go shopping. It was delivered promptly.

Don't look any further. I can't believe that everyone who own's a laptop and spends any amount of time on the road would not want one of these. In the short time I have had my Garmin GPS 18 DS, I have had the opportunity to use it both locally and for 2 long distance trips. Whether it is getting directly to your destination or finding your way through a new city. I have only found one unavoidable issue which stems from an ever changing world; on occasion when searching for a specific type of service station, you may arrive to find out that it no longer exists or has changed to another vendor. Before making my purchase I had the opportunity to use a $450 portable GPS unit of a friends. After comparing, I feel this is not only the better buy, but provides all of the same capabilities with the ease and convenience of programing that comes with being able to use your laptop to do so. It is also wonderful to have a screen 6 times the size of the standard GPS unit. I have been recommending this to everyone I know and will continue to do so. Garmin really hit a homerun with this one and thanks TIGER for bringing it to me. r, RDB, Annapolis, MD

Very happy with purchase so far. Works great with my lap top. Certainly seems to be just as advertised so far.
