The nuvi 1200 and nuvi 1300 series are the newest entries to basic GPS navigation. They are significantly smaller and thinner than other models and designed for easy portability whether in a vehicle or on foot. The higher-end nuvi 705 and nuvi 805 series are still sleek and compact units, of course; they also add high-end features such as multiple-point routing and multi-route storage, multimedia options, Lane Assist with Junction View, 3D buildings (on some models), more advanced Bluetooth connectivity, and more robust processors to handle all the data.

The Garmin nuvi 805 series models are now shipping. These units are the first to feature total voice command and control, rendering the touch-screen practically unnecessary! The nuvi 855 and nuvi 885T have pre-loaded maps of the United States and Canada, text-to-speech voice directions, an MP3 player, FM transmitter, multiple point routing, lane assist, and an extra-wide 4.3" diagonal screen. The nuvi 855 is the base model, and the nuvi 885T adds Bluetooth for hands-free calls and includes the MSN Direct receiver.

All Garmin nuvi 705 series models have pre-loaded maps of the United States and Canada, text-to-speech voice directions, an MP3 player, FM transmitter, multiple point routing, lane assist, and an extra-wide 4.3" diagonal screen. The differences within the 800 & 700 series are as follows:

The nuvi 1200 and nuvi 1300 series are new, ultra-thin and light navigators. They all feature text-to-speech voice directions, and are compatible with new software for pedestrian mode - now you can drive to your location, get out of the car, and actually find a walking route and public transportation! As a value-level option, they lack the advanced routing and multimedia features of the 705 and 805 series. The differences between the 1200/1300 models can be found below:

All Garmin nuvi 200 series models have pre-loaded maps of at least the continental United States and provide basic voice prompts. A "W" at the end of the number indicates a wide-screen version; the nuvi 255 and up add text-to-speech to the line. The new nuvi 205 models upgrade the nuvi 200 models with the ability to add live traffic, plus other connectivity enhancements.
