nüvi 205 comes preloaded with City Navigator NT map data for the the lower 48 United States, plus Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nuvi takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and smooth map updates as you navigate. Its digital elevation maps show you shaded contours at higer loom levels, giving you a big picture of the surrounding terrain. In addition, nuvi 205 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. With HotFix satellite prediction, nuvi calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

Like the rest of the nuvi 2x5-series, nuvi 205 sports a sleek, slim design and fits comfortably in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot. With its "Where Am I?" emergency locator, you always know your location. A: The Garmin nuvi 205 series currently consists of nuvi models 205, 205W, 255, 255W, 265T, 265WT, and 275T. It is Garmin's entry-level offering and replaces the nuvi 200 series.

A: The nuvi 205 is the base-level unit, with a 3.5" diagonal screen, basic voice directions, and maps of the lower 48 United States pre-loaded. The nuvi 255 adds text-to-speech voice prompts (speaks street names) and maps of Canada & Alaska. Upgrade to the nuvi 265T for Bluetooth and an included FM traffic receiver; upgrate to the 275T for all that plus maps of Europe as well as North America. Add a "W" to the model name, such as the 205W, 255W and 265WT, and you've got a wide-screen unit with a 4.3" diagonal display.

A: The nuvi 265T, 265WT and 275T all come with an FM traffic receiver, providing real-time road alerts in major metropolitan areas throughout the United States. All nuvi 205 series models also allow the user to upgrade to the GDB 55 MSN Direct Receiver. In addition to live traffic, MSN Direct also provides enhanced content such as weather forecasts, gas prices, movie times, local events, news tickers and more. The MSN Direct receiver is an improvement on the basic receiver that comes with the 265T models.

Q: What's the difference between the nuvi 205 series and the nuvi 700 series?
A: The nuvi 700 series is Garmin's high-end offering. To illustrate the difference, we can compare a nuvi 760 to a nuvi 265WT. Both are pre-loaded with U.S. & Canada maps, give text-to-speech voice prompts, have 4.3" screens, Bluetooth, and included traffic receivers. The nuvi 760, however, also has multiple-point routing and multiple-route storage - the nuvi 265WT can only go A-to-B with one stop in between, while the nuvi 760 will allow the user to input any number of addresses, sort them, and save the trip in its memory. Thus the 760 is a better choice for real estate agents and traveling salespeople, as well as users who want more control over their routes. The nuvi 760 also has multimedia features, including an MP3 player, audio book player, FM transmitter, and headphone jack, allowing the user to listen to music or literature in the car or on foot.
