Garmin nuvi 200 Series FAQs
Q: What's the difference between the Garmin nuvi 250 and nuvi 250W?
A: The "W" stands for "wide-screen;" the nuvi 250 has a 3.5" diagonal screen, while the 250W has a 4.3" diagonal screen. The 250W is also wider overall and has a higher resoultion display.
Q: What's the difference between the Garmin nuvi 200W and nuvi 250W?
A: The only differences are the map detail and the prices. The nuvi 200W contains a detailed map for the lower 48 United States, Hawaii & Puerto Rico only; the nuvi 250W contains detailed maps for the lower 48 United states, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico as well as Alaska and Canada. So if you don't plan on heading north., you can save money with the nuvi 200W. Note that you can NOT add the extra built-in map detail at a later date to the nuvi 200W, since it would require overwriting memory that isn't available.
Q: What's the difference between the Garmin nuvi 200W/250W and the nuvi 650/660 etc.?
A: The nuvi 200 series is designed to be cost-efficient, while the 600 series is designed to be feature-rich. While the nuvi 200W/250W provide basic navigation and voice prompts, the nuvi 650 would add text-to-speech (speaks street names), an MP3/audio book player, a headphone jack, and live traffic capability. The Garmin nuvi 660 adds Bluetooth and hands-free calling on top of that.
Q: Can I use my nuvi 250 on my motorcycle?
A: Garmin does NOT recommend it. The nuvi isn't waterproof or rugged enough to handle the demands of being a motorcycle GPS, and it isn't compatible with topo maps. Plus, there's no way to wire the 200 series to get voice directions on a bike.
Q: Can I use my nuvi 250 on the water?
A: No. The unit is NOT compatible with Garmin BlueChart software, which you would need for marine navigation. Plus, the nuvi isn't even waterproof.
Q: Why are there so many models of nuvi? How do I tell the difference?
A: Garmin manufactures many different models in order to help customers find the features they need at the price point they need. For a side-by-side comparison of most nuvi units, click here. Also check out the Tiger GPS Product Selector Tool to help you choose a unit based on features and price.
