Garmin StreetPilot 2720 Automotive GPS Navigation System DISCONTINUED
NOTE: This item has been discontinued by Garmin. It is replaced by StreetPilot 2820 (click here), with Bluetooth for hands-free calls and XM Radio services.
Garmin has put an end to backseat driving - all the directions now come from up front!
The new Garmin StreetPilot 2720 at Tiger GPS is the most advanced and feature-rich automotive navigation system available today. It combines all of the maps and features of the StreetPilot 2620 with two important additions: text-to-speech routing and optional traffic data services.
Text-to-speech not only tells you when to turn, it tells you where - the StreetPilot 2720 will actually say the name of the street! For example, instead of saying "Turn right in 200 feet," the StreetPilot 2720 will say "Turn right on Broadway in 200 feet," eliminating any possible confusion as to where to go and letting drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and convoluted roadways.
For drivers in congested metropolitan areas, Garmin is offering the GTM 10 and GTM 12, optional FM RDS-TMC traffic receivers that receive digital information (where available) on traffic, road construction, and weather-related tie-ups. The GTM10 and GTM12 receive data from selected FM broadcast stations in select cities throughout the United States and Europe through Clear Channel. This optional feature lets drivers see congested areas via a color-coded map. When connected to the GTM 10 or GTM12, the StreetPilot 2720 uses this data to automatically calculate and suggest time-saving and fuel-saving routes.
The StreetPilot 2720 from Tiger GPS also boasts a new automotive-grade, sunlight- readable, high color touchscreen display that automatically adjusts the unit's backlight for optimum viewability in any amount of light. Drivers can view the map in either a three-dimensional perspective or a more traditional "bird's eye" view.
The StreetPilot 2720 comes preprogrammed with City Navigator North America v8 NT maps -- containing detailed road maps throughout the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features an industry-leading six million points of interest -- including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions.
Garmin has also added the ability for customers to augment the pre-loaded maps with Custom POI's from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras. In addition, a proximity alert feature is included to optionally notify the driver of upcoming Custom POI's.
In addition to point-to-point navigation, the StreetPilot 2720 can calculate the most efficient route between multiple destinations -- a real timesaver for realtors, sales forces, and errand-runners. Drivers can also tell the unit to avoid specific areas or road segments when calculating a route.
Garmin recommends that customers visit an aftermarket automotive electronics dealer to install the GTM 10. Additionally, premium traffic management databases may require a subscription from a third-party data provider.
Garmin StreetPilot 2720 FAQ'sQ: What's the difference between the Garmin StreetPilot 2720 and the Garmin StreetPilot 2620?
A: The StreetPilot 2720 features a number of key improvements over the StreetPilot 2620. These include full 3D map view, text-to-speech, GTM 10 capability, four times the waypoint storage (2000 vs. 500), custom POI capability, a brand new version of MapSource City Navigator, and the highest resolution color touch screen in its size class.
Q: What's the difference between the StreetPilot 2720 and the StreetPilot c340?
A: The StreetPilot c340 is the streamlined version from Garmin. The c340 has a compact case and simple-to-use touch-screen-only interface (no buttons!), a dual internal speaker and an internal battery to power the unit when not plugged in. The c340 lacks some of the more advanced features of the 2720, however, such as multiple-point routing, multiple-route storage, automatic dimming, speed alarms, proximity alert/safety camera information, and an infrared sensor. It also uses a different trip computer algorithm.
Q: What's the deal with the traffic service?
A: The GTM 10 and GTM 12 add real-time traffic and weather data through an additional FM receiver. See our Garmin GTM 10 page and Garmin GTM 12 page for more detail.
Q: What languages are available for the StreetPilot 2720?
A: The StreetPilot 2720 offers voice direction in American English, British English, Canadian French, European French, Americas Spanish, European Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, European Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese, with multiple voice options in some languages.
