Introducing the Magellan Maestro 4040 - a brand new line of car navigators designed to be easy on the eyes, easy on the wallet, and tough on the competition. The Seventh Generation of Magellan GPS technology, the Maestro 4000 series feature bright 4.3" diagonal color touch-screens and an improved user interface over previous models. The Maestro 4000 is the base model, providing turn-by-turn voice directions anywhere in the continental United States. The Maestro 4040 (this page) adds a more detailed map, including expanded coverage for Canada and Puerto Rico, as well as text-to-speech voice directions, Bluetooth phone compatibility and live traffic capability. The Maestro 4050 is the first portable GPS system to offer voice recognition technology, allowing you to speak simple commands to the unit. The 4050 has all the other features of the 4040 but also includes the traffic kit (see below for comparison chart).

Another new feature of the Magellan Maestro is AAA (American Automobile Association) TourBook Travel Information. Drivers gain access to North America's most trusted source for trip planning information through searchable AAA TourBook listings, including AAA Diamond Rated Restaurants and Accommodations, Show Your Card & Save Locations for member discounts, Approved Auto Repair Facilities, Attractions, Events, Campgrounds, Cities and AAA Branch Office locations. The Maestro 4000 series also provides AAA member roadside assistance details that show your exact location and provides the AAA member toll-free help number. What a sense of security when you have the 4040 with you. Great for locating restaurants hotels and other locations while your in an unfamiliar area.

got it for xmas, best thing i ever used , i was looking for a furniture store and couldnt remember where it was the POI's found it and got me there in no time, no more fights about how to go, im getting the tfc kit for it next..

Recent purchase but prove to be a good purchase . Got me out of a couple rather bad places my wife was concerned about. I boucght it for my work "retired courier" but was really useful on vacation.. AAA on it was helpful

Great buy for the money. Similar features to Garmin 660 which is $200+ more. Unit comes complete with AC & Car adapters, good mount. The only complaints that I have so far is that even though there is an onscreen volume adjustment, it doesn't have a lot of range, unit stays pretty loud. It would be convenient to have a dial type volume control on one of the edges.

The only other improvements I would recommend would be to be able to pause the routing when you jump off route to pick up a coffee or something

This is my first GPS system, and I'm extremely impressed with this system. Right out of the box this GPS works like a charm. I've read all the other negative reviews and I'm glad I decide to stick with this system. To anyone considering buying a GPS, this is the ONE! Try it.

I would give this piece of equipment a five star ratiing despite finding a couple of flaws. One was it was not able to program in an address. I called Magellan and they couldn't program it either. Found out AAA did not even have the town on the map even though it has over five thousand in population. :-) With my wife driving, it was telling her one route to take while I was telling her to take a route I knew was quicker and straighter. She said "who shall I listen to, you or the GPS".I won... I turned the GPS off. It will really get a test this summer when we plan to travel 7000 miles touring by car I would recommend it anytime.

I'm a truck driver and used to get lost a lot trying to find a customer's site, or miss my exit on the Interstate and any number of other driving problems. Now, I make it to the front door of my customer and never miss a turn. It gets me around pileups on the Interstate via deteurs or alt. routes. Just wish it knew I was a trucker because my only complaint is using some pretty narrow, dicey roads at times, but maybe I'd be using them anyway if I didn't have it.

Purchased this unit for a trip to San Francisco. Fantastic unit. Clear voice, no problem getting around. I like the Trip Planner option on setting up trip address. This is close as near perfect as may car GPS (LEXUS).
