You don't need to drill into any part of your vehicle, but you can if you need to. Nice heavy weight base doesn't tip over or fall off of where it has been mounted. Highly portable, moves quickly to different locations/vehicles as needed. Can be adjusted to suit the needs of the intended user and keep everyone safe. (It can be as unintrusive as you can make it, and then you can change your mind and move it.)

This unit works very well but probably will not fit on most car dashboards. The base is about 8" in diameter and is quite heavy. It works great for me because I have a large dash on an RV.

All in all a good solution to the problem of bad suction. In my many road trips, I've enjoyed the use of my various GPS systems. What ultimately happens is I'm riding along and my GPS decides to come tumbling down - unstuck from the glass. The Dashboard Tripod is an elegant solution to that problem. It makes it very easy to move from vehicle to velicle as well.
Two problems that I've observed, firstly if your dashboard is dusty it has the tendency to skate (slide) around and secondly if you carry it onboard an airplane, security checkers have no idea what it is and they will scrutinize your carry-on luggage closer.
