Q: What is the advantage of upgrading to the GO PLUS model?
A: The GO PLUS is ready-to-go right out of the box because it comes with a 1 GB SD card that has been pre-loaded by TomTom with street-level maps for the entire United States. Many people believe they can just buy the standard GO along with a cheaper third-party 1 GB card and program all the maps themselves. However, this is not the case because there are eight CDs of maps, which would not all fit if loaded separately. The maps that come on the GO PLUS 1 GB card have been specially compressed and optimized by TomTom so it has coverage for the entire USA. Therefore, if you think you will want to travel in an area larger than a single region (6-9 states) and don't want to have to constantly change your maps, then the GO PLUS is the model for you.

Q: How does the TeleAtlas map software and POI database match up with those of Magellan, Garmin and Navman?
A: Though one can't program custom POIs on the device itself (which must be done on the PC), the TeleAtlas map software has over 4 million points-of-interest in its database, placing it a close second to Garmin's, and putting the other manufacturers to shame.

Q: TomTom is available in many countries - so how many languages are available on the GO?

Q: How durable is the TomTom and can I use it outside of my car?
A: Although it can be used out of the car because it has an internal battery, the TomTom GO is not recommended for rough outdoor uses such as hiking or on the water. See our selection of handheld GPS units instead. If used regularly and reasonably, the internal battery should last about two years before needing to be replaced.

Q: I heard that the TomTom GO has a radically different method for address entry.
A: The TomTom GO has the same auto-complete features found in other devices and programs. The difference is that the TomTom GO allows you to enter your state and city before the street address, so it will narrow the search database and give you faster results.

Q: Do I need to wire a speaker for the TomTom GO?
A: Not at all. The GO features an internal speaker which has been dubbed "surprisingly loud" and distinct. The clear speaking voice is available in different personalities and languages as well.

Q: What is "assisted satellite navigation?"
